No school for students on Friday September 20th due to a scheduled Teacher Workday

This morning at 10:30, Swain Middle School held a lockdown drill. The drill had been planned for several weeks. Following the drill, the school's administration became aware of a rumor among students about the presence of a gun on campus. The administration immediately searched the possessions of the students named and found no evidence of a weapon. Swain County Schools is concerned for the safety and welfare of all students and takes every concern seriously. In an abundance of caution, the Swain County Sheriff's Department will have additional officers on the campus of the middle school Friday morning. Thank you for your continued support of the school system.
