Tommy Dickens a junior at SCHS and Adam Scheid a sophomore at SCHS participated in the NC All State Honor Band clinic at UNC Greensboro this weekend. Band students across the state audition within their district for a coveted spot in their all district band. The NC Bandmasters Association is divided into seven districts. There are fifteen counties making up the Western district and students from all high schools regardless of school size compete with one another for selected spots in the district ensemble. Tommy and Adam placed top two chairs for clarinet and baritone in the Western district. Once students across all seven districts participate in their district clinics, only the top scorers go on to audition for the All State ensemble. Twenty clarinets were accepted into the 11-12 All State Honor Band across the entire state of North Carolina and only four baritones for the 9-10 Honor Band. "This is an incredible accomplishment," says band director, Karen Williams. "All State band auditions are highly competitive and to see Tommy and Adam representing Swain County at the state level speaks to their work ethic and level of dedication."
