Swain Middle School

Mars Hill, NC – The Swain Middle School 7th and 8th grade band earned top honors at the Western North Carolina Music Performance Adjudication held on March 27th at Mars Hill University. The students received a coveted Superior rating—the highest possible—from a panel of adjudicators.

During the event, the band performed three prepared concert pieces for a panel of three judges, who evaluated their tone quality, technique, musical interpretation, and overall ensemble performance. In addition to their stage performance, the students were also assessed on their ability to sight-read—a challenge in which they performed a piece they had never seen before, judged by a separate adjudicator.

Earning a Superior rating is a direct reflection of the students’ hard work, focus, and teamwork. The high level of musicianship demonstrated is a testament to the continued tradition of excellence in the Swain Band programs.
