Benjamin Cutler, Swain High English and Creative Writing teacher, has just won the Susan Laughter Meyers Poetry Fellowship at Weymouth. In honor of the life and work of poet Susan Laughter Meyers, the NC Poetry Society (NCPS) and Weymouth Center co-sponsor the annual merit-based fellowship for one North or South Carolina writer. As the 2019 winner, Benjamin will be awarded a one-week stay at the Weymouth Center, a $500.00 stipend, publication of a poem in Pinesong (NCPS’s annual anthology of award-winning poems), and an opportunity to read or present a program at an NCPS meeting at Weymouth. Cutler’s poetry has appeared in numerous literary magazines. He won the North Carolina Poetry Society (NCPS) 2019 Carol Bessent Hayman Poetry of Love Contest and the NCPS 2019 Poetry of Witness Contest. Benjamin is also a husband, a father of four, and, in addition to his work at Swain High, is the North Carolina Writers' Network-West Swain County representative. His debut book of poetry, The Geese Who Might be Gods, is available from Main Street Rag Press.
