Narrative Version

 

WIDA Screener Placement Test/W-APT for Language Proficiency Assessment is administered to students in any grade within 30 calendar days of enrollment at beginning of year, or within 14 days of enrollment if later in school year. The test takes 60 minutes to administer, is used to determine qualification of ESL Services and for a baseline of English Language Proficiency. Parents will be sent a letter to notify them of their student’s score and qualification for ESL services.

 

mClass Beginning of Year assessment measures English Language Arts and Literacy in grades K-3 between the first month of school. The assessment is 1 minute Probes for DIBELS Time as needed for TRC, is used to determine a student’s reading readiness and Reading level; opportunity to demonstrate ELA proficiency for Read to Achieve. Home Connect letters are sent home after each testing period. Beginning of year, Middle of year, and End of year.

 

Beginning of Grade 3 Reading Test (BOG3) assessment measures English Language Arts and Literacy in grade 3 between 11th & 15th day of school. The test takes 90 minutes and establishes a baseline for academic growth for ELA for 3rd grade students, schools, and teachers; opportunity to demonstrate ELA proficiency for Read to Achieve. Individual Student Report provided within 30 days of scoring, sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

 

Group IQ test in all subjects is administered to grade 4 and 7 and it’s usually the first month of fourth or fourth grade. The test takes 90 minutes and is for AIG placement. Scores are provided to all parents. Additional placements there will be a letter sent to parents by AIG.

 

CDM (Credit by Demonstrated Mastery) Assessments in any high school course for grades 9-12. State determined (summer, fall and spring administrations). This test takes 120-180 minutes. It’s an opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery in a course and obtain course credit. Individual Student Report with status is provided within 5 days of scoring and sent home with students.

 

Read to Achieve Test Administration assessment measures English Language Arts and Literacy in traditional 3rd graders and 3rd graders not successfully passing the EOG ELA/ Reading. It starts in October, then May/ June and after summer reading camps. This test takes 160 minutes. It’s an opportunity for 4th grade transitional students to demonstrate ELA proficiency for Read to Achieve. Individual Student Report; provided within 30 days of scoring and sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

 

PreACT assessment measures English Language Arts, Literacy, Math and Science for grade 10 and is usually in October or November. This test takes 150 minutes and is a diagnostic practice test for the ACT. Individual Score Reports are sent to the school approximately eight weeks after materials are returned to ACT. Reports and test books will be returned to students at that time.

 

Work Keys Test assessment measures in Career Readiness for grade 12, Early Grads and only (CTE completers). This test is in December and takes 135 minutes. This test is a State Accountability performance indicator that measures Career Readiness; students have an opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certification. Students who receive a National Career Readiness Certification are provided a certificate. Individual scores are reported upon request.

 

End of Course Tests (Swain Middle and High School) assessment measures English Language Arts, Literacy, Math and Science for grades 9-12. Semester courses last 5 days and yearlong courses last 10 days. This test takes 150-180 minutes. It provides a measure of student proficiency for the course; provides an exam grade for the course, used in State Accountability for proficiency and academic growth. Exam grades are recorded for the student as a part of their final grade for the course. Parents can access the exam grade on the report card or within the Parent Portal.

 

NC Final Exams (Swain High School) assessment measures English Language Arts, Literacy, Math, Science and Social Studies for grades 9-12. Semester courses last 5 days and yearlong courses lasts 10 days. This test takes 120 minutes. It provides a measure of student proficiency for the course; provides an exam grade for the course, used is State Accountability for academic growth. Exam grades are recorded for the student as a part of their final grade for the course. Parents can access the exam grade on the report card or within the Parent Portal.

 

mClass MOY assessment measures English Language Arts and Literacy in grades K-3 during the end of second quarter (usually December). The assessment is 1 minute probes for DIBELS time as needed for TRC. Determined a student’s reading readiness and reading level; opportunity to demonstrate ELA proficiency for Read to Achieve. Home connect letters are sent home with report cards.

Math (k-2) Assessment MOY measures math in grades K-2, usually in April and takes 30-60 minutes. This test provides a measure of student proficiency of math grade level standards taught up to MOY. Individual student data for teachers; Parents may receive information upon request.

 

NCFE (Swain Middle School) assessment measures Science and Social Studies in grades 6-8. Semester courses last 5 days and yearlong last 10 days. This test takes 120 minutes. It provides a measure of student proficiency for the course and is used in State Accountability for academic growth. Score reports are provided to schools within 5 days of testing. Parents can request NCFE results from their child’s teacher or school.

 

WIDA ACCESS for ELLs assessment measures Language Proficiency in all grades and is available end of February, beginning of March. This test takes 170 minutes. Yearly measure of English Language Proficiency for student identified a EL and is used to determine if student qualifies to exit ESL services. Individual Student Report provided by the end of the school year and is sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

State Accountability performance indicator that measures Career Readiness; students have an opportunity to earn a National Career Readiness Certification. Students who receive a National Career Readiness Certification are provided a certificate. Individual scores are reported upon requests.

 

The ACT assessment measures English Language Arts, Literacy, Math, Science and Writing in grade 11, usually available in February, date window determined by ACT annually. This test takes 235 minutes. State Accountability performance indicator that measures College Readiness; students receive a score that may be used for college admission requirements. Individual Score Reports are sent to the school approximately eight weeks after materials are returned to ACT. Reports and test books will be returned to students at that time.

 

NCEXTEND1 Grade 11 (The ACT Alternate) assessment measures English Language Arts, Literacy, Math, Science and Writing in grade 11, usually available in February and March. The time for this test is student specific. This test is an alternate assessment for the ACT. Individual Student Report; provided within 30 days of scoring and will be sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

 

mClass EOY assessment measures English Language Arts and Literacy in grades K-3, late in the fourth quarter. This test is 1 minute probes for DIBELs time as needed for TRC, is used to determine a student’s reading readiness and reading level and an opportunity to demonstrate ELA proficiency for Read to Achieve. Home Connect letters are sent home quarterly.

 

Math (K-2) Assessment EOY measures math in grades K-2 in the fourth quarter and takes 30-60 minutes. This test provides a measure of kindergarten – grade 2 student proficiency of Math grade level standards. Individual student data is for teachers use in planning, revising and improving mathematics instruction; parents may receive information upon request.

 

NCEXTEND1 Test assessment measures reading, math, and science in grades 3-8 and 10, during the last 10 days of school and the time for this test is student specific. This test is an alternate assessment for EOGs and EOCs. Individual Student Report; provided within 30 days of scoring and will be sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

 

End of Grade Test (Reading/ ELA & Math) assessment measures in English Language Arts, Literacy and Math, in grades 3-8, during the last 10 days of school and takes 180 minutes. This test provides a measure of student proficiency for the subject and is used in State Accountability for proficiency and academic growth. Individual Student Report provided within 30 days of scoring and will be sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

 

Math 1 End of Course Test (Middle School) assessment measures math in grade 8, during the last 10 days of school and takes 180 minutes. This test provides a measure of student proficiency for the course and provides an exam grade for the course, used in State Accountability for proficiency and academic growth. Individual Student Report; provided within 30 days of scoring and will be sent home or provided at parent/ teacher conferences.

 

End of Grade Test (Science) assessment measures science in grades 5 and 8, during the last 10 days of school and takes 180 minutes. This test provides a measure of student proficiency for the subject and used in State Accountability for proficiency and academic growth.
